About
Mila Skeeles
I was born and raised in Nanaimo, followed by 20 years spent traveling throughout Canada, the United States, Australia, and Peru, for my husband’s work. During this time I worked as a piano teacher and we raised 2 children. Along the way, I met people from many different backgrounds and cultures and learned something that has stayed with me ever since: no matter where we come from, we all face similar challenges. We want healthy relationships, happy and safe children, and a sense of balance and connection in our lives.
After returning to Nanaimo in 2005, I began my own personal health journey, which deepened my belief in the importance of open, honest communication and supportive community. Those experiences—both personal and professional—shaped my path into counselling.
I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from UBC and a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology from Yorkville University. Over the years, I’ve worked and volunteered in a variety of helping roles, including crisis counselling, peer support, and community-based services. I’ve also supported individuals, families, and students of all ages through my work with local organizations and North Island College.
I am a Certified Canadian Counsellor (CCC) with the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association and have additional training in Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) and supporting first responders.
I strive to offer a warm, respectful, and collaborative space where people feel heard, supported, and understood.
